About us

The Group

As an alliance of independent companies, the EMS-Fehn-Group has been providing worldwide maritime and logistics services for several decades. The companies are active in various fields such as ship management, crewing, shipping & chartering, yacht transport, trucking, port operations and project logistics. They have offices throughout Europe, in the MENA region and overseas. Some of the companies operate their own vessels, trucks, port terminals and customs agencies.

The beginning

It all started in 1984, when the captain and entrepreneur Heiko Luikenga established EMS Shipping & Trading in Leer, an East-Frisian port town close to his home turf in the northwest of Germany. The company, which is still active today, was to become the nucleus of the EMS-Fehn-Group. Soon, the first seagoing vessel was acquired, and newly founded companies started to cover more and more parts of the logistics chain.

Some 40 years later, a new generation of partners and managers is at the helm and has set the course for further growth. At their core, however, the companies have remained the same. They are customer-focused and value-driven service providers with a soft spot for the big, wide world. Shipping and logistics are in their DNA.

The name

EMS-Fehn-Group, or EFG for short, is a reference to the strip of land in Germany where it all began. Located near the Dutch border, the group’s hometown of Leer lies on the river Ems and is surrounded by cultivated moorland called Fehn. Combine both terms and you get … well, it’s pretty obvious. The name EMS-Fehn-Group is a tribute to the centuries-old seafaring tradition of its home region and to the people who live there.
