About us

In 1984, Heiko Luikenga established EMS Shipping & Trading. Today, the company is still based in Leer, a port town close to his home turf in the northwest of Germany. Leer lies on the river Ems and is surrounded by cultivated moorland called Fehn.

Both terms, Ems, or rather EMS, and Fehn, accompanied the entrepreneurial activities from then on. New companies were founded and the first own seagoing vessel was acquired. Soon ship management, crewing, shipping & chartering, yacht transport, trucking, port operations and project logistics, to name but a few, were among the services provided by the companies.

An alliance of independent companies was born – the EMS-Fehn-Group, or EFG for short. The companies established branches all across Europe and overseas and grew into full-service logistics providers, some of them operating their own ships, trucks and port terminals.

Some 40 years after the beginnings, a new generation of partners and managers is at the helm and has set the course for further growth.

At the core, however, the companies have remained the same. They are customer-focused and value-driven service providers with a soft spot for the big, wide world. Shipping and logistics is in their DNA.
